I think culturally, the lifestyle factor here is amazing. Sometimes when I travel to New York or Austin or San Francisco, I’m like, wow, I could be doing so much more here. But here everyone prioritizes lifestyle over everything, and that I really appreciate.
Like physical and mental health, I think, are kind of just at the forefront here. It even shows in what comes out of Vancouver, Lululemon being like one of our most well-known exports.
There’s so many places to go. I mean, even in this place, you can see the mountains out the window on a sunny day. It looks beautiful. And being close to the water. It’s a place where you can go skiing, snowboarding, go to the beach and go golfing all in one day.
There’s so many great ones in the guidebooks, which I really like. So, I try to think of a few that not a lot of people think of. So, Steveston is one that should actually be on everyone’s radar. It’s a little bit outside of Vancouver, kind of closer to the airport, but it’s this fishing town that feels like nothing else in the city. It’s really cool to check out, for sure. You can get some fish and chips and a bunch of other really cool snacks and just go right down by the water and all these fishing boats are there.
Commercial drive. I’m obviously a little biased because that’s where we are right now, but I think it has the best food in the city, especially when you consider price point, because the neighbourhood has just a lot of more artsy people in the neighbourhood. Rent is cheaper, so restaurants can afford to take a bit more risks, but there’s so many of them that they have to be good to stick around, so you really can’t go wrong in this neighbourhood. And it’s a blend of Little Italy and also like the artist kind of neighbourhood.
So yeah, I think those are my kind of top two. So, we have a ton of cherry blossom trees here that were given to us by Japan at some point in the last century, and it’s now like tens of thousands of trees all over the city. There is a little festival that occurs in, I think it’s VanDusen Gardens, and it’s like a traditional Japanese festival with all the cherry blossom trees in the background. So that’s like a must see.
