    In your own language, you probably use idioms all the time. They’re a good way to make what you say more interesting and colourful, and you can express what you want to say more clearly. But can you do the same thing in English, a foreign language? 

    In the following exercises, we take a look at some idioms that originally come from talking about nature, but which are used today to talk about quite different topics. Some of these are about air, others are about water and ice; some are about trees and plants, and others are related to the earth. See how well you can do — and maybe learn something along the way!
