Transcript: Escape the crowds

Hello, I’m Richard Mote, an editor at Business Spotlight magazine. I come from Australia. My hometown is Sydney, and Sydney is also a very popular place with tourists. I think it’s where most tourists arrive in Australia, and there are lots of tourist attractions there that are very crowded, like the Opera House and the harbour area, that sort of thing. Not that I wouldn’t say that Sydney suffers from overtourismMassentourismusovertourism, but there are places, of course, where it gets very crowded and tourists can annoy local people sometimes or other tourists. Another place where that might happen is Bondi Beach. Bondi is a very famous area in the south of Sydney and the beach is famous. Although it’s hard for me to say why it’s so famous, because it’s not all that special, to be honest. It sort of reminds me of going to Paris to look at the Mona Lisa. And you wait for ages and you go in there and it’s very small and you think, is that it? And it’s sort of like that with Bondi. It’s a nice beach, nothing… you know, I don’t want to say anything against it, but it’s not that special. And there are actually about 70 beaches around Sydney, so you have, if you want to go to the beach, you have plenty of alternatives. My favourite is called Balmoral Beach, which is a much quieter place. It’s sort of tucked away a little bit, and it’s a little bit harder to get to, but that is the reason why there are fewer people there and it’s just a bit nicer there, you know, less hectic and it’s a nice place to be. And you still have all the advantages of being at the beach in Sydney
