In the latest episode of Spotlight’s very own soap opera “Peggy’s Place”, Peggy and her husband Phil put up the Christmas tree. You can listen to a short extract from their conversation and practise the Christmas tree vocabulary that you learned yesterday.

Listen to this short dialogue featuring pub owner Peggy and her husband Phil. Then complete the following statement:

Peggy: I suppose we could decorate the tree while we’re waiting.
Phil: OK, but do you really want to put it in front of the window? It makes the bar quite dark.
Peggy: Phil, it’s winter! It’s always dark — and, anyway, I think it’s nice when you see the tree from outside. It looks so inviting with the fairy lights and the baubles.
Phil: Right you are! Where’s the tinsel?
Peggy: In that blue box on the counter.

Now that you’ve learned more about the language that Brits use to talk about decorating their trees, be sure to come back tomorrow to find out what slightly weird objects many Americans put on their Christmas trees.

Can’t get enough? Pay us a visit tomorrow to take a peek behind the next window of our Advent calendar!
