Killarney comes alive this summer
If you're planning a summer holiday to Ireland this year, Killarney, in the south-west of the country, has lots to offer.
The Killarney SummerFest, which runs from 26 June until 12 July 2009, is the town's highlight of the year. With its wide variety of performances and events, there is sure to be something to suit all tastes. Westlife and KT Tunstall will be performing live, and the Hungarian pianist Endre Hegedus is providing an evening of classical music. An international street performers' competition, a theatre production and a comedy programme called "Summer Laughs" are just a few more of the events on offer. Visitors, especially children, can take part in arts and crafts workshops; and if you're the active type, there is a charity cycling event and a five-kilometre fun run. More sporting events to get involved in, or watch, include horse racing, boating and walking.
While you're there...
With any luck, the Irish summer will provide sunshine and warm weather — perfect conditions for a visit to Killarney National Park. There are many tracks and trails to choose from, so why not rent a bicycle and discover the park on two wheels? You could also enjoy a relaxing boat trip through the lakes from Ross Castle to Lord Brandon's Cottage, or simply just take in the spectacular landscape at one of the park's viewpoints.
