Five houses in Ireland
It was only a few years ago, and yet it feels like another era, a lost world. Ireland's money-mad years of the Celtic Tiger have left the country with a huge banking hangover and lots of unpaid bills. Now that it has all ended, people hope that a more caring country will emerge from the economic ruins and that the island's historical mysticism will replace the consumerist mania of the past decade. In this spirit, then, we visit five houses that retain that charm of this mysterious land. We're starting in Kerry
Céad míle fáilte ("One hundred thousand welcomes") is the greeting offered by An Riasc bed & breakfast on the Dingle Peninsula. This is the heart of the West Kerry Gaeltacht (Gaelic-speaking area), where the scenery is splendid, the food is fine and the welcome is genuine. "On arrival you are welcomed with complimentary tea or coffee with delicious homemade cake while you begin to relax, unwind and your host Denise will outline all local attractions and amenities throughout the area…"
