Beautiful beaches, bodies and beer in Sydney
Australia has beaches and Australia has beer. Australia also has beautiful people who like to show the world their beautiful bodies — sometimes without any clothes. Because the visitor to Sydney can have it all, we'll start with the beaches.
Clothing, by the way, is compulsory at the Sydney seaside, so it's important to wear some at the city's not-so-liberal beaches. That said, there are exceptions to every rule. For those who like to show off everything they've got, we've got two tips.
Cobbler's Beach: Located near Middle Head in Sydney Harbour National Park, this is an ideal place for getting that all-over tan. But because Sydney is a port, lots of ships sail past Cobbler's Beach. So if you're shy about being seen in the nude, go snorkelling, which means that the sailors will see only your backside.
Obelisk Beach: Situated on the north shore of Sydney Harbour, Obelisk Beach is famously sunny, but because Australia gets so much sunshine, it is advisable to use lots of sunscreen. It's extremely uncool to get sunburn or to arrive at the pub with a red face. Note: one part of Obelisk Beach is popular with men who go there for sex with other men.
After a long, thirsty day at the beach, it's time to check out Sydney's drinking scene. The city offers two kinds of bars: the very trendy and the very traditional. We'll start in King's Cross, a part of Sydney noted for sleazy back streets and funky young people.
The Iguana: Down at 15 Kellett Street in King's Cross, the Iguana Bar has music, dancing, food and wine, including "the velvety Elderston cabernet sauvignon from the Barossa Valley". Is that Hugh Jackman? Was that Cate Blanchett? The Iguana Bar is a favourite post-party place for film and music stars.
The Lord Wolseley: For something completely different, try the Lord Wolseley Hotel in the inner-city area called Ultimo. This is one of the smallest pubs in Sydney, but it's a favourite. The best way to enjoy it is to stay for a night in one of the nine upstairs rooms.
