The people, places and paradoxes of India
Himalayan mountains, Bengali beaches, serene temples, rural poverty, urban luxury, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs — India is one of the world's most diverse countries. Spotlight team member Birgit Roberts and her husband went to India and came back with some dramatic impressions of the paradoxes that make up this nation of more than one billion people.
Birgit: "This little girl is fetching water from a spring at the Karla Caves in Lonavala, Maharashtra. To Indians, water is an increasingly precious commodity. One problem is, of course, the amount of rainfall, and the other is the pollution of the groundwater. Many Indians who can afford it have water filters in their homes or drink only bottled water."
