Card clock

Language Editor
Have you become a card-carrying teacher yet? As I mentioned in the activity Card Swap, the language cards in the magazine are far too useful to be left on the shelf. In this activity, which I learned from Sue Morris, your students play a game with the cards and dice in small groups.
Who it's for:
All levels
What it's for:
Review, warmer or closing activity
What you need:
Language cards from several issues of Spotlight; round coloured cards you've made yourself (one for each small group of students), about 20 cm in diameter; dice.
What you do:
Before the lesson, write the numbers 1 to 6 around each coloured card like on a clock face.
In the lesson, give each group one such "clock" and a dice. Distribute sets of cards depending on your aims, timing, and the number of cards and groups you have. The card sets should be laid on or next to each number on the clock, front side up. Each number on the clock can have a different set of cards from several issues, for example Idioms or New Words, or you might prefer to have random groups of cards by each number.
Players roll the dice and take a card from the set next to the number on the clock indicated by the dice. Players carry out the task on the card and check the answer on the back. The game can be played collaboratively or competitively and for just one round or several. You choose!
