Procedure

  • Download and make copies of the copy file.
  • As a lead-in to the lesson, find out who did what on New Year's Eve. Add a story of your own.
  • Hand out the copies. Tell the class that Peggy and friends are preparing for a party. Give students a couple of minutes to read through the dialogue. Treat it as if it were the original version.
  • Cue the audio so that the playback will start with Peggy's line: "So how are the preparations going?"
  • Tell the group that you are going to play the audio of the same text, but that there will be some differences, which they should find and mark on the sheet. You can tell them how many difference they should be looking for (ten), or leave it open.
  • Play the audio once or twice, giving students time to check with each other after each listening.
  • Have a feedback session .When checking the answers, make sure your students have noted what the speakers actually said.
  • Ask four volunteers to act out the original scene, using appropriate stress and intonation.
The following words have been replaced in the text with the words in brackets: giant (huge); 50 (15); honey (bunny); put up (put on); rickety (rubbishy); gabbing (yakking); quiet (nice); pins (shins); five of clock (four o'clock); tight (bright).
