The Garden Route Vocabulary Game
Procedure
- Cut the article into four sections. Paste the map on page 36 below each section. Make copies for the students.
- Download "Steaming along the Garden Route" (see Spotlight in the Classroom 3/2009 to learn how):
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMGBikDJHk0 (Part 3);
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q18VHQ7_b2Y (Part 4) .
- Give each student one section of the Spotlight text to read for homework. In the next lesson, divide the class into groups of four, in which all texts are represented. Students take it in turn to tell their partners about their text, presenting it as if they had really been there. Allow 20 minutes.
- Show the video clips, inviting comments and comparisons.
- Give each group an enlarged copy of the Copy File. Explain any new vocabulary, and play the game.
