Procedure
- At www.spotlight-online.de/teachers/spotlight-in-the-classroom, you can download and cut out cards for this warmer. The "normal ingredients" have been taken from the article "Ready to braai" on pages 20–21 of the magazine. You can create your own "strange ingredients" or use the ones provided.
- Arrange the students into groups.
- Give each group a random selection of four "normal ingredient" cards, as well as one "strange ingredient".
- Ask students to talk together and invent an original dish using all of the ingredients on their cards. They may add two other ingredients of their choice. Dictionaries may be consulted.
- Circulate and help out where needed, building up a vocabulary list on the board as you go along.
- Each group gets one minute to present its recipe. Ask students to write up on the board the ingredients used before they begin.
- Vote on the most interesting dish.
