Cutting up strips |
| Time | Level |
| 15 minutes | easy |
Procedure
- Download the PDF above, print it out and cut the sentence strips apart. They are taken from the joke "Learning to fly" on page 64 of the magazine.
- Invite students to tell you about funny things that have made them laugh today or recently.
- Give students each a sentence strip and ask them to memorize their text. They are not to reveal it to the others.
- Ask students to turn their strips face down. As a group, they should work out the right order of the joke.
- Elicit the correct order.
- Ask students to now say the joke fluently. Get them to repeat the joke using the past tense, e.g. "A baby turtle was at the foot of a tall tree."
- Ask a strong student to recite the joke in the present with a different punchline, e.g. "Don't you think it's time we moved to the ground floor?"
