Sean Penn, Milk And the correct answer is make up. If two people "make up " or "make it up" after a quarrel or they fall out, they become friends again.

Two-time Oscar winner, Sean Penn and his wife, Robin Wright Penn separated — for the second time last year. The on-again-off-again couple had been married for 11 years. "Marriage ain't easy," Penn said, "but it's great most of the time." The two did come together this year when their son Hopper (named after the late Dennis Hopper) suffered a serious skateboarding injury, but Hollywood experts doubt if they'll make up anytime soon.

The phrase "make up" is very flexible and it has many different uses and meanings.

1. The people or things that make up something are the members or parts that form it. EXAMPLE: "North Africans make up the largest and poorest immigrant group in Spain."

2. If you make up something such as a story or excuse, you create it, sometimes to deceive people. EXAMPLE: "A student who claimed he was the victim of a politically-motivated attack in which he was beaten and kicked, now admits that he made the whole story up."

3. If you make yourself up, you put eye shadow or lipstick on your face. EXAMPLE: "She spends 20 minute making herself up every morning before going to work."
