Yes, the Bible has an app
The Bible has an app. And no, it was not given to anyone on a mountain. YouVersion has been installed almost 10 million times, says Bobby Gruenewald, a pastor at Lifechurch.tv, a high-tech ministry in Oklahoma. Gruenewald worked in the tech industry before he joined the church, so the idea of using the Web to help people connect with the Bible seemed logical to him.
His app provides an easy-to-use interface to the Bible in more than 40 different versions and 22 different languages, but it also has social-media functions built in. Users can share their favourite passages by posting them to their Facebook wall or sharing them on Twitter. Gruenewald says there have been half a million such tweets in the last 12 months.
"Upcoming features include support for text, audio and video notes associated with specific passages," Gruenewald told GigaOM.
