Socialist and anti-imperialist tweets
Term limits were ended last year in Venezuela, so it seems that President Hugo Chávez plans to rule the country forever. Now, it looks as if he also wants to rule Twitter. "I'm sure he'll break records for numbers of followers," Diosdado Cabello, his head of communications, told Bloomberg News.
The "president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Bolivarian soldier, socialist and anti-imperialist" is certainly gaining fans quickly. He already has more than 200,000 followers after just one week's tweets. That's pretty good, considering that it took the famous capitalist Bill Gates months to reach 800,000 followers.
Meanwhile, President Chávez is following only five people, one of whom is connected to his idol, Cuban leader Fidel Castro. The president is tweeting with ÜberTwitter, which means he (or the person writing his tweets) is probably using a BlackBerry smartphone.
And what about his Twitter username: chavezcandanga? Well, El candanga literally translates as "the devil", but people also use it to describe someone who is fearless.
