Sal Khan is teaching the world
"This guy is amazing," Bill Gates wrote on his blog. "It is awesome how much he has done with very little in the way of resources." Gates and his 11-year-old son now spend hours watching Sal Kahn's videos about everything from algebra to molecular theory and are tweeting about the results.
At some universities, a teaching load of five courses every academic year is considered a lot, but Sal Khan delivers his lectures an average of 70,000 times a day. Working from the comfort of his home, Khan has made available more than 1,500 mini-lectures to educate the world. Subjects range from math and physics to finance, biology and economics. And he does it all with Camtasia Studio ($200), an $80 Wacom Bamboo Tablet and a free copy of SmoothDraw 3. He says that he is trying to provide education in the way he wished he had been taught. With more than 100,000 video views a day, he's now making a difference to many students.
