The next George Smiley will be Gary Oldman
27.09.2010
Gary Oldman will play George Smiley in a new film of the classic Cold War novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The movie will be directed by Tomas Alfredson, the Swedish film-maker best known for his 2008 horror hit Let the Right One In. Filming has started in London and will continue in Budapest and Istanbul in November.
John le Carré's 1974 story tells of a retired British secret agent drawn back into the world of espionage. "The timing is right for a big screen version of Le Carre's classic novel," Tim Bevan of the British production company Working Title told the BBC. "It's great for us to have Tomas on board. He has assembled a stellar cast and will bring a unique vision to the story."
