Ireland will be Camelot this summer
"Don't let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
For one brief, shining moment
That was known as Camelot."
Alan Jay Lerner (1918-1986)
The famous castle of Camelot, where the legendary King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table met, will come to life once again in Ireland this summer in the form of a television drama. Filming is due to begin in Ardmore Studios in Wicklow in May. The series will be broadcast in 2011. The script is being co-written by Michael Hirst, who wrote The Tudors, and Chris Chibnall of the British science-fiction series Torchwood.
Camelot will be an international co-production between Octagon Films, British production company Ecosse Films and Canada's Take Five Productions; and it will be broadcast on the US cable channel Starz. "The legend of King Arthur is a fascinating story that we couldn't be more excited to have as our first television project," Graham King, the executive producer of the series, told Variety magazine.
