Ask a group of children what they want to do when they grow up, and you're likely to get some interesting answers. Being an astronaut, doctor or firefighter sounds exciting to most 12-year-olds. But ten years later, as they are graduating from college, they've usually changed their idea about their dream job.
The research firm Universum USA conducts a survey of American college students each year, asking them to name their top five places to work. BusinessWeek reports that Google has been at the top of the list for the last three years.
But even though Google's number-one spot has not changed, other things have. Government jobs have become more popular in the last year, perhaps because they are seen as being secure. The State Department, NASA, the FBI and the Peace Corps are all in this year's top ten places of employment. Investment banking, on the other hand, has gone way down. Can anyone figure that one out?
