My phone could soon be my hotel room key
First there was the key, then came the key card and next is the smartphone. For the next 60 days, the Holiday Inn Chicago O'Hare Rosemont and the Holiday Inn Express Houston Downtown Convention Center will allow guests to access their rooms using their smartphones.
Bryson Koehler of InterContinental Hotels group, told USA Today: "The holy grail item for us is to simplify the room-key hand-off moment at the hotel. The beauty of the smart phone is that they've already got it."
Koehler said the new technology would be compatible with most smartphones, including the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android. If the trial is successful, it will be extended across the company's hotel network.
