I have two questions.

* Are "the Oscars" not plural? If so, why is the answer "is" instead of "are"?
* "Study after study shows that darker mornings or darker evenings lead to more traffic accidents."
I couldn't understand what this sentence, especially the term "study after study" means? Is it something like "one after another"?

Thanks for these interesting questions! 1) The Oscars can be either singular (focussing on them as an awards ceremony) or plural (taking the word grammatically and focussing on the individual awards that were handed out). So you can say "Well, folks, that was the Oscars!" or "Well, folks, those were the Oscars!" The grammar issue is a) das war = that was; b) das waren = those were. 2) Exactly, "study after study" is a little like "one after the other". It translates to "eine Studie nach der anderen" or "Studie um Studie". Maybe you know the Cindy Lauper song, "Time After Time", meaning "mal für mal" or "immer wieder". Here's a YouTube version with the lyrics.

Regarding "study after study", if it behaves like "time after time", this shows it is an adverb and if it serves as an adverb in the sentence given, our sentence lacks a subject.

In this sense, I personally think "Study after study It has been clear that darker mornings or darker evenings lead to more traffic accidents." would be a better sentence. I am looking forward to reading your comment on it.

I couldn't understand what "over for another year" means.
The word "over" in the sentence seems ambiguous to me.

"Over for another year" is a set expression. Because we know that the Champions League, the Oscars or Wimbledon will take place again next year, we mark the end of the event using this formula. It is very flexible and can be applied to many different situations, for example: "That's the sales meeting over for another week, thank God!"

I got it, Eamonn. Thank you for answering my question.
What do you think about my comment on "study after study"? Is it right?
