The mistakes that make you look careless
When we talk, we often make mistakes, and most people accept this fact. The conversation continues and the errors are usually forgotten. That's not the case with written communication. When we make a grammatical mistake in e-mails, reports, memos and other professional documents, there's no going back. It can look like carelessness.
These days, we communicate with the typed word as much as we do with the spoken word. Often, we're in a rush, quickly sending off e-mails and text messages filled with typing mistakes and that cool no-caps look. Sending a less-than-perfect e-mail to a friend is one thing. But if you want to create error-free messages that reflect your professionalism, you need to take your time.
In the January 2009 edition of Spotlight, we've played with a spelling difference in the title of our travel feature, "Dublin your fun". Is it really "Doubling your fun", or did the writer intend to say "Dublin, you're fun"? We've dipped into our archives to find an exercise that tests how careful you are in typing easily confused words like these. Ready? Good luck!

What is meant by no -caps look? I tried several dictionaries and even native speakers--and all I got was a shrug.
Most of your articles, tests or exercises are informative and useful and I use a lot of them in my different classes. Is has ,however, not become easier to find the exercises. I often have to put in my name and code repeatedly until I am accepted--very time consuming--and it takes a lot of time too, to adjust the size of the printed letters to 100% because otherwise you need a magnifying glass to read the print and often pages come out half empty or blank--a waste of papaer and printcartridges. It would be a great help if some of these " troubles could be deleted" some time. Thank you for reading and trying to find a solution.

I did the test and didn't notice anything strange. It shows you what you selected, tells you whether you got it right or wrong, and provides the correct answer. This is the difficult test, so it's very normal not to get 100 points :)
