A Twilight dreamscape: Nouns and determiners
Bella Swan doesn't want to move to Forks, a small town in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state. But once she meets the mysterious Edward Cullen, her life there takes a dangerous and thrilling turn. Romantic and suspenseful, the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer is hugely popular with young adults, especially girls, because it's less about supernatural vampires and werewolves than about adolescent angst.
The Cullens are civilized, "vegetarian" vampires who can live peacefully among people as long as they stay out of the sun. This is easy in Forks, which lies under a near-constant cover of clouds and gets more rain than anyplace else in the USA. Its landscape of tall trees and deep ravines, of mossy trunks and foggy forests creates a haunting dreamscape, showcased in the the movie trailer. (2:23)
This week we follow Edward and Bella to the temperate rain forests of Washington. Come review the grammar of nouns and determiners as you learn about their story and the landscape it plays in.
