When we want to say that something exists somewhere, we use there:
• "There is a hole in my bucket."
• "There are two slices of cake left."
singular
? Is there enough time?
+ There's plenty of time.
– There's not / there isn't enough time.
plural
? Are there any biscuits left?
+ There are a few in the cupboard.
– There aren't any left. I ate them all.
All tenses
We can use there in this way with all tenses of be:
• "There are people standing on the road."
• "There were loads of people at the exhibition."
• "There have been storms up and down the country."
