Spotlight Audio: Easier than ever
This week's column is by Spotlight's audio editor, Rita Forbes.
When Spotlight Audio first appeared in 1990, it was on a cassette tape. Seems so retro, doesn't it? Back then, the recording was analog, too, so editing it meant physically cutting and splicing the tape.
Moving from cassette to CD in 2000 was a big step. Working digitally, we were able to edit everything on a computer screen and improve the sound quality as well.
Now, in 2011, we've taken another step to make listening to Spotlight Audio even easier. It's thanks to two letters and a digit: MP3. That's right:
Our monthly audio magazine is now available in the popular music format.
You can take it anywhere you like, and it'll play on any portable player.
For 20 years, Spotlight's writers, editors and speakers have worked hard to bring you 60 minutes of informative and entertaining audio each month. Now that the end product — with language exercises, interviews, columns and short stories — is easier to listen to than ever, why not give it a try, and let us know what you think?
For only €13.10, you can get a two-month trial subscription to the Spotlight Audio download. This is the perfect way to find out whether it's right for you.

How it works Getting the download is very simple. Just go to our online shop, click on "Hören" or "Listen", and add an audio download subscription to your electronic shopping cart. After payment, you'll receive a link to your personal page on our website. You can go there at any time and review the editions available to you, starting with the current month's audio. Choose an edition, and the download begins! The .zip file you get is about 50-60 MB in size, taking only a few seconds to arrive on a standard DSL connection. Unpack the .zip archive and you'll see a separate MP3 file (128 kbit/s stereo) for each track of audio, along with a JPEG image of the cover art. You'll also find the entire 28-page audio booklet in PDF format. This contains the printed text of every word spoken on the audio, with German translations of difficult words. |
