Hydrologists in San Francisco Bay take measurements in a former salt pond that is slowly turning back into a wetland.
Wetlands are areas of land that are partially or completely covered by a changing depth of water —- as much as six metres of either freshwater or salt water. As transition zones between oceans and continents, they support a large variety of living organisms. They also form a natural buffer that helps to prevent flooding of inland areas.
