Under the gaze of Frida Kahlo
23.05.2010
Students at the Oakland School for the Arts in California learn under the sphinx-like gaze of Frida Kahlo. With works that combined the vibrant culture of Mexico and the traumatic experiences of her own life, Frida Kahlo became the most famous female artist of the first half of the 20th century. Her personal blend of realism and surrealism produced paintings and drawings filled with pain, sexual fantasies and humour.
The 120 works now on display in the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin as part of "Frida Kahlo — Retrospective" comprise the most extensive exhibition of her art to date in Europe. The exhibition runs until 9 August.
