The real cost of clothing

A young woman stands in a poor Dhaka neighborhood, in the heart of the city's garment district. Employing 4.5 million workers in some 4,000 factories, Bangladesh's clothing industry generates three quarters of the country's export revenue. In spite of the central role the sector plays in the nation's economy, most Bangladeshi garment workers have to put up with appalling conditions while earning well below a living wage.
