Almost everything the San people need — food, clothing, weapons — they get from nature. They have very few possessions, just the things they carry on their backs: sticks, spears and a few utensils that they've picked up from their more modern neighbours. You learn to travel light when you have to carry everything you own with you.
Medicine man Jan van der Westhuizen hopes one day to take the San back to their traditional land in the Kalahari Desert from where they were expelled during South Africa's apartheid years.
