Returning to nature
18.01.2010
A gravedigger at Fernwood Cemetery in Mill Valley, California, an hour north of San Francisco. Fernwood is one of a growing number of natural cemeteries in the US that do not use toxic embalming fluids. Instead, it uses only biodegradable caskets and burial shrouds.
Fernwood has also introduced "LifeStories" — professionally made video biographies of some of the people buried there — and it stores the geographic coordinates of each grave so that it can be found using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
