Many hands are helping New Orleans to recover
In March 2007, the US Census Bureau estimated the population of New Orleans to be 255,000, around 56 percent of what it had been before Hurricane Katrina struck. People are gradually returning to the city, and so is business. Major conventions are being held again, while big football games such as the New Orleans Bowl are back. Tourist events like Mardi Gras and the Jazz & Heritage Festival were never cancelled.
Inspired by the courage of the people he met in New Orleans, actor Brad Pitt decided to do whatever he could to help them rebuild their lives. His Mission of Make It Right is creating a neighbourhood of safe and healthy homes, while preserving the city's culture.
