An exciting game of wheelchair rugby
From left, Chet Miller, Nick Springer and Justin Patterson chase down a ball during a California Quake quad rugby training session at the Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Palo Alto, California.
Players of what is also called "wheelchair rugby" all have some degree of quadriplegia. Depending on their level of impairment, they are given a classification number between 0.5 and 3.5. Four players at a time from each team are allowed on the basketball court, with a total of no more than 8.0 impairment points among them. Players pass a volleyball back and forth, attempting to cross the goal line. The game, played since 1979, now has more than 45 national and 22 international teams.
