A pod of porpoises
10.01.2011
Porpoises swim before the prow of a boat near the Farallon Islands near San Francisco.
Porpoises eat fish, squid, and crustaceans. Although they are capable of diving as deep as 200 metres, they generally hunt in shallow coastal waters. They are found most commonly in small groups of fewer than ten individuals; a group is referred to as a pod.
