23.08.2009
It began over the Bahamas on 23 August 2005. It hit south-east Louisiana on the morning of Monday, 29 August and caused severe loss of life and property damage. At least 1,836 people died in New Orleans, and 80 per cent of the city was flooded as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
