The surreal euro
On Saturday, in the Irish Times, University College Dublin professor Morgan Kelly wrote that "It is no longer a question of whether Ireland will go bust, but when." By the way, this is the same Ireland that is contributing €1.3 billion to the dramatic €750 billion bailout plan to save the euro. The best reaction to all this came from comedian Jason Byrne on a popular television show. He laughed, and the audience laughed as well, at the idea of a country that is broke — Ireland — offering money it doesn't have to another country that is broke — Greece.
I hope you'll take the time today to do Anne Hodgson's latest vocabulary exercise, "The euro takes a nosedive". These are surreal times.
