Shouldn't rock music be about anger, like?
A leather jacket for £739. A T-shirt for £71. The prices sound so crazy that I'll repeat them: A leather jacket for £739 (€839)! A T-shirt for £71 (€80)!
Did they belong of Michael Jackson? No. Were they designed by Armani? No. The jacket and the T-shirt are part of a clothing range called KOLxS2A. Fans of rock music will recognize the acronym KOL as short for The Kings of Leon. Who? The Kings of Leon are four long-haired young men from Tennessee who played some of the best rock music of the last decade. People liked them because they were in the music business not for the money, but for the buzz, the bourbon, the beer, the noise, the sweat and the groupies. When I went to see them play in London's Hammersmith Apollo two years ago, I had no idea what they were wearing. The place was dark and the lights were low, but it was a fabulous night.
And now we have a Kings of Leon clothing range. ("S2A" stands for the Parisian fashion designers Surface to Air. The "x" represents the collaboration between the two groups.) My favourite is the bandana for £65. A simple piece of cloth folded into a triangle: £65!
The success of Jay-Z's Rocawear inspired Liam Gallagher, formerly of Oasis, to launch his Pretty Green clothing line six months ago. It was probably inevitable that KOLxS2A would follow. But it's not rock 'n' roll.
