Read all about it! The September Spotlight
The September edition of Spotlight goes on sale on Wednesday, 25 August. Eamonn Fitzgerald spoke to Editor-in-Chief Inez Sharp about the next issue.
Fitzgerald: The September magazine offers "50 tips for the perfect English CV". Can you share one or two of them with us in advance?
Sharp: Putting together a CV can be stressful. Everyone wants to create the perfect résumé and writing in a foreign language is doubly difficult. A couple of tips from the feature that I found very useful were, first: do your homework and find out about the company you are applying to. I have had the same CV for a long time and just update it now and again. I had never thought about considering the focus for an individual employer.
Second, I liked the tip about using language in a positive way. As the feature says, avoid language that gives the impression you only attempt things or don’t finish them. Instead of saying you "worked on the database", says you "improved the database".
On the whole I think the feature helps us to understand that although there are basic rules about writing a CV, you can be creative about how you present yourself — as long as you are still telling the truth, of course.
