The July edition of Spotlight goes on sale next Wednesday. Eamonn Fitzgerald spoke to Editor-in-Chief Inez Sharp about the next issue.

July SpotlightFitzgerald: Everyone makes mistakes, but famous people make famous mistakes. That's the idea behind the July Language feature "Did I say that?" What can we learn from celebrity mistakes?

Sharp: We can learn that even celebrities are human and sometimes mix up their idioms or just talk plain nonsense even when they're speaking their own language. So the message is: "Don't be shy to talk and maybe get it wrong — at least your mistakes won't end up on YouTube for millions to watch."

Fitzgerald: In the Travel section, we're off to Memphis, a southern US city best known for its music. What else does it offer the visitor?

Sharp: The city has a great atmosphere. In part that is the result of the musicians who have come to the city, but Memphis also has a great culinary tradition — southern US specialities such as a breakfast of grits, bacon and pancakes are available around town. It's also full of parks and museums — the Mud Island River Park on the Mississippi River and the National Civil Rights Museum, to name two.

Fitzgerald: What can our audio subscribers expect in July?

Sharp: This month we visit Britain's rivers and canals for a boating holiday. The author of "Life in the slow lane", Julian Earwaker, spoke to boating enthusiast Lynda Payton. You can hear what she has to say on the audio. Business communications expert Ken Taylor explains to listeners how to say goodbye in business situations on the track English at Work. And, as every month, there is a great prize waiting for the winner of our audio quiz.

"One small step for a man"

Fitzgerald: Our History writer looks at the moon.

Inez SharpSharp: To anyone old enough to remember it, the moon landing in July 1969 was an incredible event. I was eight years old at the time, and I can still see the fuzzy black-and-white images in my mind's eye. Mike Pilewski has brought the event back to life in the piece "One small step".

Fitzgerald: Finally, our regional columnists. They're always good for a provocative statement or three. What are Colin, Peter and Ginger writing about in July?

Sharp: Colin and Ginger have both chosen iconic aspects of life in their countries. Colin looks at the tasty and the sometimes not quite so tasty English breakfast, while Ginger goes in search of the real identity of Uncle Sam. Peter, on the other hand, explores Australia's attitudes to green living.
