From one to 100
02.08.2010
The Venice Film Festival begins on 1 September. American director and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino will be the president of the jury for the competition. The opening film is Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller set in the world of New York ballet, Black Swan.
Venice is extraordinary, but it is rather expensive, and that's why I'm going to the Portable Film Festival instead. This is a new festival for a new way of telling stories, and it doesn't cost a cent to enter or watch. No rip-off gondolas or overpriced hotels either. Last year's program offered 180 very short films from 46 countries. This typical Portable film has 100 people, from age one to 100, banging a drum. A simple idea, but a clever one, and the bonus is lots of different British accents.
