Bacon and blogs
15.05.2009
Yes, I know: the "proper" word combination, or collocation as my friends in the Spotlight language department would call it, is "bacon and eggs". But I like "bacon and blogs", because lots of bloggers write about the tastiest part of that classic Anglo-American breakfast, crisp bacon. Five favourites:
- The Bacon Show: A delicious new bacon recipe is posted here every day. I simply loved the risotto with turnips and bacon.
- Bacon UnWrapped: Started four years ago by Heather Lauer, the blog has evolved into a community. Heather's new book, Bacon: A Love Story, is sure to be a best-seller.
- Mr. BaconPants: What a great title! Bacon bits and pieces as well as a weekly video podcast about... yes, bacon.
- Bacon Today: Daily news for and about breakfast. As well, Bacon Today has developed its own exclusive Smaste rating system for rashers.
- Bacon Haikus: A haiku, the blogger here tells us, is a "form of ancient Japanese poetry. It consists of three lines of exactly 17 syllables." Brevity, like bacon, can be lyrical and savoury.
Am I not worried about swine flu? Sure, but not so worried that the bacon part of my breakfast will be replaced any day soon by fish or tofu. But if Monsanto could create genetically modified vegetables that tasted like bacon...
