And they called her...
It's like they consulted the Oxford Collocations Dictionary instead of The Complete Book of Baby Names. North West is the name that recording artist Kanye West and, um, famous person Kim Kardashian have decided to give their first child.
Plenty of people took to Twitter and went into word-association frenzy. Nini tweeted:
"What if Liam named his child Period and her last name would be Period Payne? I just fell on the floor [laughing]."
Liam Payne is a member of the boy band One Direction — but you already knew that.
What were they thinking? Is it some sort of mnemonic to help them remember their only child's name? I tried to imagine the baby-naming process — to help me understand it.
Kanye: What about, like, South?
Kim: South? South West? Isn't that an airline?
Kanye: Oh. Yeah.
Kim: I kind of like Mid. It has a certain ring to it.
Kanye: Mid? What kind of name is Mid? You can't call a kid Mid!
Kim: No? OK, Honey. Well, I thought it was nice. Your turn.
Kanye: How about Bulletproof?
Kanye: Yeah, like Bulletproof Vest, you know?
Kim: Honey. It's not very feminine.
Kanye: Yeah, you're right. We don't want kids at school dissing her because she's got a masculine-sounding name, right? I've got to tell you, though, I'm running out of names that sound good with West!
Kim: Just a second. I've got this book here. Here we go! Well, there's Go...
Kim: Face? Bear?
Kanye: Nah. They don't sound like good names to me. I want to watch the game now. Let's talk about it in the morning.
Well, whatever. Welcome, North West. I shouldn't make fun of your name. As GottaStayFTD said on Twitter:
"Y'all making fun of North West for that baby's name, but she going straight to the top — and slightly to the left."
